As principal dentist at Broad Street Dental Practice, Dr Junaid Choudhry has developed a particular focus on implant and cosmetic dentistry since graduating from King’s College London with a Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) in 2022.
His approach to implant treatment starts with the end result. Rather than thinking about the implant in isolation, Junaid considers the teeth we’re aiming to create first, using photography and digital planning to help determine how the implant treatment should be approached.
You don’t need to know which type of implant treatment you need before you come to see us. A better place to start is simply with what’s happening with your teeth now.
A single dental implant can replace a missing tooth without relying on the neighbouring teeth for support. If the tooth is still present but badly broken or failing, come to see us before it's removed. In suitable cases, it may be possible to remove the tooth and place an implant at the same appointment.
Learn MoreIf several teeth are missing together, implants can be used to support a fixed bridge. This means you don't necessarily need an individual implant for every tooth you're replacing.
Learn MoreWhen many teeth are failing, implant treatment can be planned as a complete solution rather than dealing with each tooth separately. Depending on your situation, implants can support either a fixed set of replacement teeth or a removable implant-retained denture.
Learn MoreIf your dentures move when you eat or speak, dental implants can be used to anchor them more securely while still allowing you to remove them for cleaning. For some patients, a completely fixed set of implant-supported teeth may also be an option.
Learn MoreWhere the implants go is only one part of successful implant treatment. We also need to think carefully about the teeth they’re eventually going to support.
At Broad Street, pre-treatment photographs help us consider the teeth and smile we’re aiming to create before deciding how the implants should be positioned. Digital scans and 3D imaging can then give us a detailed picture of your mouth, including the available bone and surrounding structures, so the different parts of your treatment can be planned together.
We start with where we want to finish, then plan the implant treatment around it.
It’s something many patients worry about, but lower bone levels don’t automatically mean dental implants aren’t possible. The size and position of an implant can be planned around the bone available and, where additional support is needed, bone grafting may be incorporated into treatment.
In many cases, grafting can be carried out at the same appointment as implant placement, using bone substitute material around the implant to support healing. More significant bone loss may require a different approach. Detailed 3D imaging allows us to assess how much bone is actually available before deciding what’s possible.
You don’t need to arrive knowing which implant treatment you need.
Whether you’re dealing with one failing tooth, several missing teeth, loose dentures or the possibility of replacing most or all of your teeth, we’ll start by looking at the bigger picture and explaining the options that may be appropriate for you.
Your dental implant consultation is £79.
There isn’t a simple upper age limit for implant treatment. Your general health, oral health, available bone and individual circumstances are more important in determining whether implants are appropriate for you.
Implant placement is carried out with local anaesthetic, so the area is numbed during treatment. Some soreness and swelling afterwards are normal, and we’ll explain what to expect during your recovery.
It doesn’t necessarily rule out implant treatment. We can assess the available bone in detail and determine whether the implant can be planned around it or whether bone grafting may be useful.
No. One missing tooth can be replaced with an individual implant and crown, while several implants can be positioned to support a bridge replacing multiple teeth.
Sometimes. If you have a broken or failing tooth that needs to be removed, it may be possible to place the implant during the same appointment. This is known as immediate implant placement and can avoid having to wait for the area to heal before implant treatment begins.
Whether it’s suitable depends on the tooth, surrounding bone and condition of the area, which we’ll assess as part of your treatment planning.
For suitable patients, replacing all the teeth in an upper or lower jaw is possible. The implants can be placed and a temporary fixed bridge fitted on the same day, giving you a functioning set of teeth while the implants heal.
Your final replacement teeth are made later, once healing has taken place.
There isn’t a guaranteed lifespan for a dental implant. Long-term success depends on several factors, including the health of the gums and bone around it, cleaning, general health and regular professional maintenance.
