Stop putting up with dentures that move

Dentures can become less secure over time. They may move when you eat, make you cautious about certain foods or leave you thinking about how securely they’re sitting when you’re talking or laughing.

If the denture itself is still the type of solution you want, dental implants can give it something conventional dentures don’t have: a secure anchor.

Implant-retained dentures use a small number of carefully positioned implants to hold your denture much more firmly in place, while still allowing you to remove it for cleaning.

Why dentures can become loose over time

When natural teeth are lost, the bone that once supported their roots gradually changes in shape and volume. As the gums and jaw change, a denture that once fitted well can become less stable.

You may notice it lifting or moving when you chew, find yourself avoiding harder foods or become increasingly reliant on denture adhesive.

Relining or replacing a denture can help in some circumstances. But if the underlying problem is that your denture simply doesn’t have enough support, dental implants can provide a more stable foundation.

A more secure way to wear dentures

Broad Street Dental Care

Dental implants are placed into the jaw to create secure anchor points for the denture.

Rather than simply resting on the gums, the denture connects to the implants to hold it more firmly in position. You can still remove it yourself for cleaning, but when it is in place, it has much greater stability than a conventional removable denture.

You don’t need an implant for every missing tooth. The number and position of implants are carefully planned according to the denture they need to support and your individual mouth.

More stability in everyday life

Broad Street Dental Care

The biggest change is often simply having to think about your dentures less.

A more stable denture can give you greater security when you bite and chew, make speaking and laughing feel less inhibited and reduce the worry that your teeth might move at the wrong moment.

For someone who is otherwise comfortable with removable dentures, implant retention can offer a useful middle ground: you keep the practicality of a removable denture, but gain the additional stability provided by dental implants.

Your new teeth aren't an afterthought

Broad Street Dental Care

Implant treatment at Broad Street isn’t planned by looking at the bone and simply asking where an implant will fit. We start with the result we want to create.

Pre-treatment photographs allow us to plan the smile first, considering the position, appearance and function of the finished teeth. Digital scans and 3D imaging then help us plan where the implants should be positioned to support that result.

Been told you don't have enough bone for implants?

It’s something many patients assume, particularly after wearing dentures or living with missing teeth for a long time. But having less bone than you once did doesn’t necessarily mean implants aren’t possible.

Implant size and position can be tailored to the bone available and, where necessary, bone grafting can be used to create or preserve the support needed around an implant.

Bone grafting can also sound like a much bigger procedure than it necessarily is. In many cases, it can be carried out at the same time as implant placement, using a bone substitute material around the implant to support healing.

Your 3D scan allows us to see how much bone is actually available and plan accordingly, rather than ruling out implants based on an assumption.

Removable or fixed implant teeth: Understanding the difference

Both options use dental implants for support, but there is an important difference.

Implant-retained dentures are removable. They connect securely to implants when worn but are taken out for cleaning.

Fixed implant teeth stay in place. Treatments such as All-on-4 and All-on-6 use implants to support a fixed bridge of replacement teeth that you don’t remove yourself.

If you’re happy with the idea of a removable denture but want it to feel much more secure, implant retention may be the more appropriate route. If your aim is to move away from removable teeth altogether, we can also discuss fixed alternatives.

Your implant-retained denture treatment

Step 1

Detailed assessment

Treatment starts with a detailed assessment of your denture, gums, bite and the bone available to support dental implants. Using photographs, digital scanning and 3D imaging, we can plan the finished teeth and establish where the implants need to be placed to support them effectively.

Step 2

Treatment

The implants are then placed into the jaw and given time to integrate with the surrounding bone. Once they are ready to support the denture, the appropriate attachments can be used to connect the two securely.

Step 3

Bespoke process

The exact process will depend on your existing denture, the condition of your mouth and the treatment being planned, so we’ll explain your individual stages before you decide whether to proceed.

Start with a £79 implant consultation

If loose dentures are starting to dictate what you eat, how you speak or how comfortable you feel around other people, you don’t necessarily have to accept that as part of wearing dentures.

Your £79 implant consultation allows us to assess why your denture is moving, look at the bone available and discuss whether implants could provide the additional stability you’re looking for.

Frequently asked questions

Will my dentures still come out?

Yes. Implant-retained dentures are designed to be removable, allowing you to take them out for cleaning. The difference is that they connect securely to dental implants while you are wearing them.

Do I need a new denture?

That will depend on your existing denture and the treatment being planned. We’ll assess its fit, condition and suitability as part of your consultation and explain whether a new denture is recommended.

What if I've been told I don't have enough bone?

Having reduced bone does not automatically rule out dental implants. We use 3D imaging to assess the available bone and can consider implant size, positioning and bone grafting where appropriate.

Can I have fixed teeth instead?

Potentially. If you would prefer replacement teeth that you don’t have to remove yourself, treatments such as All-on-4 or All-on-6 may be worth exploring. Your consultation allows us to compare the options that are actually suitable for your mouth.
