Find out about All-on-4 / All-on-6 dental implants
Dental implants can support replacement teeth in two main ways. The right approach will depend on your mouth, your priorities and whether you would prefer your new teeth to be fixed or removable.
Fixed teeth supported by dental implants
Several implants can be carefully positioned across the jaw to support a full bridge of replacement teeth. You don’t need an individual implant for every tooth.
It is easy to assume that replacing a full set of teeth means having an implant placed for every missing tooth. It doesn’t.
Instead, a carefully planned number of implants can be positioned across the jaw to support a complete bridge of replacement teeth.
Where appropriate, approaches such as All-on-4 and All-on-6 use four or six implants to support a full arch. Which approach is suitable depends on your individual mouth and needs rather than simply choosing a number of implants.
Replacing a full set of teeth isn’t simply a matter of deciding where to place implants. We need to consider what those implants will eventually support.
Your remaining teeth, gums, available bone and bite all form part of the planning process, alongside the position, appearance and function of the finished replacement teeth.
Digital scanning and 3D imaging allow us to build a detailed picture of your mouth and plan the treatment around the result we’re working towards.

Your treatment begins with a detailed assessment to establish what is possible in your particular situation and whether dental implants are suitable. From there, we can plan the number and position of the implants and the type of replacement teeth they will support.
If you still have failing teeth, any necessary extractions will also form part of that treatment plan. The exact stages and timescale will vary depending on your starting point and the treatment being provided. We’ll explain your recommended approach in detail before you decide whether to go ahead.

No. A full set of fixed replacement teeth can be supported by a smaller number of carefully positioned implants. The number needed will depend on your individual mouth and the type of restoration being planned.
Wearing dentures does not automatically prevent you from having dental implants. We would need to assess your mouth and available bone to establish which options may be suitable.
You can discuss full-arch implant treatment while you still have your own teeth. We will assess which teeth have a good long-term outlook and whether retaining them or considering a wider replacement plan is the more appropriate approach.
Fixed implant teeth remain attached to the implants and are not removed by you each day. Implant-retained dentures use implants for additional stability but remain removable for cleaning.
